A quick apology to any regular readers about the sudden influx of posts about track listings. These are part of a horrible game I’m playing with some chums. I will possibly do something that will illustrate this in a better way in the next couple of days. In the mean time, why not read them and pretend that you’re listening to the music.

I very nearly ruptured something while reading this.

Your own levels of potential rupturing may vary.

Wound Up

January 19th, 2011 by Alastair

I’ve managed to give myself a paper cut.

On my chin.

Can’t say that I recall this ever having happened before. In future I intend to spend less time waving pieces of paper in front of my face, no matter how much I want to try and see the third dimension.

That’s how I got the paper cut on my retina.

New Years Quizzery

January 3rd, 2011 by Alastair

Afternoon all. Hope your festive seasons have all been just dandy. Mine has mainly centred around indolence, apathy and bloating, which partly explain the quietness around these parts. Another reason for said silence was my having agreed to write a quiz for one of the public houses I regularly frequent. Occuring between Christmas and New Year as it did, attendence was fairly low, but that was probably a good thing as I’d managed to pitch it’s trickiness far higher than planned. As such, I’m not going to inflict the whole thing on you (despite the hours I spent sweating over it). Not the whole thing…

I spent a couple of lengthy, frustrating afternoons assembling the music rounds, which I now present for your delectation. For the first one I took five songs* and sped each one up to four times its usual speed. Give it a listen and see if you can name the songs and the artists performing them. Please be aware that, unlike the other three, the first and fourth songs are not present in their entirety. This is because they went for bloody ages and would have annoyed everyone in the pub even more than they already did.

Sped Up

For the second music round, I took the choruses of ten songs and reversed them. On the night I only asked for the names of the songs, though if you know the names of the artists why not have a guess at those too.

Backwards

Should you wish to have a stab at any of this, leave your answers in the Comments section below. I’ll give out the answers in a week or so. If those amongst you who have already heard the answers could refrain from having a go, that would be smashing. Erm, and if you could refrain from looking at anyone else’s guesses too, that would probably be more sporting (unless you all want to play as a team – I don’t really care).

Maybe I’ll even give out something that resembles a prize to whoever gets the most. Probably not though. I’m not made of prizes. Despite what that report said.

*I actually tried it with closer to two dozen songs, most of which turned out to be a completely unintelligable mess. Rest assured that these five are considerably easier than Smack My Bitch Up, Shine On You Crazy Diamond or anything else I dismissed.
